Available as an instrument, with a 60º kit, and as a complete 360º kit.
Haglöf Vertex 5 Ultrasonic Hypsometer
The Vertex 5 hypsometer is the favorite instrument of many forestry engineers for carrying out precise measurements of height, angle, and distances in the forest. The new hypsometer Vertex 5 improves the performance of the well-known Vertex 4, working exceptionally well in dense vegetation, even when the transponder is hidden.
Haglöf Vertex 5 Features
- Measures distances up to 30 meters or 100 feet with a resolution of 0.01 m or 0.1 feet even in dense vegetation, and with an accuracy of +-1% or better if calibrated
- Measures heights up to 999 meters or 3277 feet with a resolution of 0.1m/0.1 feet
- Angle measurement in 360° degrees, 400° degrees, or percentage with a resolution of 0.1°
- Can store 5000 data sets in the built-in memory and save them as a CSV file
- Bluetooth® 4.0 (BLE) can be used to wirelessly transfer data to Android, iOS, or Windows devices
- (BAF)
- Basal area function to determine the minimum DBH diameter a tree must have at the sample point to be counted
- Multilingual, select your preferred language
Measurement Functions
The Vertex 5 is developed to measure tree heights, but of course, it is possible to measure any preferred height.
The instrument measures distance and angles and then calculates heights using trigonometry up to 999 meters or 3277 feet, with a resolution of 0.1 m.
Height
Point toward the transponder. Hold ON until the aiming cross disappears and get the distance.
Point toward the height to be measured. Hold ON until the aiming cross disappears and the measured height is displayed.
It is also possible to measure just the distance or angle, for example, the slope angle.
Sampling Tracks
When using the central plotting rod with the 360˚ adapter at the center of a sample plot, you can easily measure the distance and check if the trees in the plot are within the correct measurement radius.
Sample Points
When using a prism or similar, the BAF "Basal Area Function" exists to control the minimum (DBH) that the tree must have to be counted at the sample points.
BAF factors: 0.5, 1 to 9 (m2/ha) or 5, 10, 15... to 50 (ft2/acre).
The Vertex 5 can be used in dense vegetation and understory.
