Bernese GNSS Software
High-Precision GNSS Post-Processing Software
The Bernese GNSS software is a high-precision scientific software for multi-GNSS data processing developed at the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern (AIUB).
Leica Geosystems is the exclusive reseller of BERNESE software for commercial applications in the field of geomatics. Research licenses are supplied directly by AIUB.
It is used by the CODE (Center for Orbit Determination in Europe) for its international (IGS) and European (EUREF/EPN) activities. The software is continuously being developed and improved.
The Bernese GNSS software is the ideal tool for:
- Scientists researching in geodesy, meteorology, and geosciences
- University studies
- Survey agencies responsible for high-precision GNSS studies
- Agencies responsible for the maintenance of permanent GNSS receiver arrays
- Commercial users with complex applications requiring high precision, reliability, and high productivity
Precise Processing
With Bernese, you can process all major observables recorded by high-precision geodetic receivers (i.e., code and phase data on both carriers). Whether static or kinematic, it accounts for differential code biases of satellites and receivers for applications involving code observations.
Single and dual frequency data can be processed in the same estimation step. The use of ionosphere models minimizes the impact of ionospheric delay on station coordinates and other parameters. Save time and effort by processing and combining data from various types of receivers in the same processing step (including the establishment and use of receiver-specific antenna phase center variations).
The powerful Bernese processing engine (BPE), newly developed, allows you to tailor automated processing sequences. Sophisticated examples included in the distribution are:
- Precise Point Positioning (PPP)
- Baseline processing
- Network processing (RINEX-to-SINEX)
- Clock estimation.
- Linear modeling for exact replication
To meet the highest precision requirements, Bernese models the station movements for plate motions, solid earth tides, and ocean tide loading. Additionally, Bernese modeling takes into account all time-dependent parameters through a piecewise continuous linear representation, especially for zenith path delay of the troposphere and gradient parameter, earth orientation parameters, and global ionosphere models.
You can apply and estimate antenna phase patterns for both the receiver and satellite antennas. This simultaneous solution can be applied for a wide range of different parameter types. Parameter estimation programs can be used for:
- Baseline
- Session
- Campaign
- Multiple campaign processing.
Many complex different solutions (e.g., annual coordinate solutions and ERP) can be produced using normal equation systems (e.g., daily) without needing to reprocess observations.
Support of All Data Formats
With Bernese, you can fully integrate the data processing of GPS, GLONASS, and GPS/GLONASS receivers. It also processes SLR observations to GNSS satellites. Bernese supports international input/output formats:
- RINEX with LEO extension
- SP3c
- SINEX
- IONEX
- RINEX Clock
- SINEX Troposphere
- ANTEX
- IERS ERP
Users can easily navigate the software thanks to the new window-oriented user interface, clear input panels, and the program structure. More than 600 pages of printed documentation, expanded online html-based help panels, and technical support from the developers are also available to provide the best user experience.
