Ground Penetrating Radar for Mobile Mass Data Collection
The Stream EM, along with the Leica Pegasus:Two, offers a solution that provides an integrated hardware platform for comprehensive 3D mapping of underground utilities and surface features in a single scan.
This ground-penetrating radar solution enables the massive and mobile collection of underground utility data thanks to the use of a large set of antennas. While capturing calibrated images and point cloud data, the solution utilizes:
- Laser scanner (or multiple scanners)
- LiDAR technology
- GNSS receiver
- Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)
- Distance Measurement Instrument (DMI)
- All on a mobile platform (vehicle), acquiring precise and accurate spatial data.
The solution has been designed to cover tens of hectares per day, achieving the best underground utility and surface surveys, maintaining the same maximum data collection speed of 15 km/h.
The combination of the positioning data provided by the Leica Pegasus:Two with the complete 3D view of the subsurface provided by the IDS Stream EM allows for the precise reconstruction of the geospatial coordinates of assets, regardless of variations in the scanning path (which is not always straight) and elevation. This makes it possible to create a highly accurate map of underground assets with a resolution of a few centimeters.
The availability of complete knowledge of underground facilities allows for better decision-making in the design of new installations. It also reduces the risk of unexpected problems due to utilities or significant anomalies, such as sinkholes that are discovered during the construction phase.
System features:
- Can be towed by a vehicle at up to 15 km/h (9 mph) and can operate continuously without blocking traffic.
- Accuracy of up to 5 cm (2 inches): Stream provides precise geolocation of the inspected area and individually distinguishes all detected pipes, cables, and anomalies.
- Cost and time reduction: Can cover tens of hectares per day without needing to block traffic.
- Combines images and point cloud data into a single calibrated and intuitive platform.
- Fully calibrated spherical view through an optional dome camera for city modeling.
- Capture and edit 3D spatial objects from images or within the point cloud.
- No need for dedicated or modified vehicles.
- The software allows access to Esri® ArcGIS for Desktop.
The benefits of Pegasus:Stream include:
